According to tests by a London-based network analytics firm OpenSignal, rivals Vodafone Idea (Vi) had the best upload speeds while Reliance Jio offered the best 4G coverage and experience between May-July period.
Airtel has retained the top spot on download speed for the sixth report in a row with a score of 10.4 Mbps. Vi was close with a speed of 10.1 mbps while Jio lagged behind sharply with average download speed of 6.9 mbps, data showed.
For upload speeds, Vi was the leader offering mean speed of 3.5 mbps.”The combined operator’s (Vi’s) score is also 56.1% higher than that of Jio’s and 4.3 times higher than that of BSNL’s,” OpenSignal said in a report released Monday.
Airtel and Jio had upload speed of 2.8 and 2.3 mbps respectively.
“In addition to Airtel winning the Video Experience award for the fourth time in a row – with a score of 57.6, 3.4 points (6.3%) ahead of second-placed Vi – our Airtel users were the only ones who enjoyed a Good Video Experience (55-65),” it said.
All operators showed modest declines in their Video Experience (1.5% to 2.3%), likely due to the COVID crisis and the resulting changes in user behavior. Airtel gave the best 4G and 3G video experience.
In real-time multiplayer mobile gaming, Airtel came out on top with a score of 55.6 out of a possible 100, ahead of newly merged Vi in second place.
“These parameters include latency (round trip time), jitter (variability of latency) and packet loss (the proportion of data packets that never reach their destination),” it said.
Airtel also had the best voice app experience with a score of 75.5 out of 100, close to Vi’s 74.4. This measures the quality of experience for over-the-top (OTT) voice services such as WhatsApp, Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc.
