Electricity supply has been disrupted in many parts of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane following the grid collapse causing widespread power outage.
A Vodafone Idea (Vi) executive said the telco’s network management teams have already managed to restore telecom connectivity in most impacted locations and are likely to restore normalcy in a few hours.
“The impact has been more pronounced in places where tower sites were not adequately stocked with diesel as one doesn’t normally expect power failures of this magnitude in Mumbai,” said the Vi executive.
A senior Bharti Airtel official, in turn, said the telco had swung into action following complaints from some Airtel customers about mobile broadband connectivity issues following the massive power cut in Mumbai. “Our teams are working on a war footing and hope to normalise the situation at the earliest”.
ET’s queries to Vi, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio did not immediately elicit any responses.
Meanwhile, power supply was also reportedly getting restored gradually in some Mumbai locations, including Churchgate, Thane, Sion, Chembur, Andheri and Belapur. Train services too had reportedly been restored on the city’s central and western railway lines.
